How Plain calculates pay, tax and super
The rules behind every figure, so you can check them.
| Amount | How it's worked out |
|---|---|
| Ordinary pay | Hourly rate × standard hours for the period, or the hours from approved timesheets |
| Overtime | Hours × rate × the overtime multiplier |
| PAYG withholding | ATO Schedule 1 formulas (scales 1 to 6) for weekly, fortnightly or monthly pay, with the ATO's rounding |
| Study and training loan | ATO Schedule 8, added to PAYG |
| Medicare levy variation | The ATO's weekly levy adjustment, taken off PAYG |
| Working holiday makers | ATO Schedule 15: 15% up to $45,000 for the year, then 30%, 37% and 45% |
| Bonus or commission | ATO Schedule 5 Method A, at most 47% of the bonus |
| Super guarantee | 12% of qualifying earnings, up to the maximum contribution base |
| Leave accrual | Annual 4/52 and personal 2/52 of ordinary hours paid |
Every pay line records the calculation version (for example AU-ATO-SCH1-SCH8-2026-07-01) so you can always tell which rules were used. Plain's figures are tested against an independent copy of the ATO formulas on every release.
